SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Windows CE Services on a computer running Microsoft Windows NT, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Cannot find \\<computername>\<sharename>\Windows CE Services\Setup.exe
where <computername> is the name of the computer and <sharename> is the name of the shared CD-ROM drive that contains the Microsoft Windows CE Services Setup CD-ROM.

Access denied.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install Windows CE Services over a network using Mscdex.exe version 2.25 or earlier to share the CD-ROM drive over the network.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use any of the following resolutions:

  • Use a local CD-ROM drive to install Windows CE Services.
  • Use Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 or later to share the CD-ROM drive on the network.
  • Configure Windows to use 32-bit CD-ROM drivers. To do so, please consult your hardware manufacturer or the documentation included with the CD-ROM drive.
