WD98: Fraction Not Replaced Automatically (No AutoFormat Option) (185510)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q185510

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 98, when you type a fraction, the fraction will not be replaced with the fraction character. This behavior is different from Microsoft Word 97 for Windows.

If you are used to using Word for Windows, you may also notice that the following option is not on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of the AutoCorrect dialog box (on the Insert menu, point to AutoText, and click AutoText):

  • Fractions (1/2) with fraction character (1/2)

CAUSE

Fraction characters do not exist in the character set of the Macintosh fonts; therefore, fractions are not replaced automatically in Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
