OL98: Customization and Forms Help Missing (185450)

SYMPTOMS

When you ask the Office Assistant in Microsoft Outlook 98 for information about creating forms, you are referred to Outlook Customization and Forms in Contents and Index on the Help menu, but that topic does not appear.

CAUSE

You do not have the Development Tools component installed.

RESOLUTION

Add the Development Tools component of Outlook.

To Add Components to Outlook

  1. Click Start on the Windows Taskbar, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click to select Microsoft Outlook 98, then click Add/Remove.
  4. In the Outlook 98 Active Setup dialog box, click Add New Components.
  5. Depending upon the source of your initial installation, click "Install from Web" or "Install from CD."

    NOTE: If you use the CD for your installation, make sure Microsoft Internet Explorer is not in offline mode. Work Offline is on the File menu. If it is checked, click Work Offline to deselect it.
  6. Click Yes, to allow Active Setup to determine the Outlook components installed on your computer.

    You will see a list of components available for download. If a particular component is detected by Active Setup, the Status column on the right displays "Already Installed." If a particular component is not detected the Status column displays "Not Installed."
  7. To see more information about a components, click the arrow next to the item.
  8. To add a component, click to select the check box to its left.
  9. Click Next, when you have finished selecting the components to add.
  10. Click to select a Download Site, then click Install Now.
  11. When the download is complete, quit all programs and restart your computer.
