WinCE: Error Message When You Upgrade to Version 2.1 (185409)

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade Microsoft Windows CE Services version 2.0 to Windows CE Services version 2.1, you may receive either of the following error messages:
DCCMAN.EXE - Application Error. The instruction at "< xxxxxxxxxx >" referenced memory at "<xxxxxxxxxx>". The memory could not be read.
-or-
File Error. Cannot find _INS0432_MP.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Microsoft Windows CE Services is running on the desktop computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Disconnect the Handheld PC (H/PC) or Palm-size PC (P/PC) from the desktop computer.
  2. Restart the desktop computer.
  3. Install Windows CE Services version 2.1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows CE Services version 2.0.
