Windows NT 4.0 Setup Restarts Continuously (185322)

When you attempt to install Windows NT 4.0 on a computer that already
has Windows 2000 installed, Setup may continuously restart each time
the computer is started without ever finishing.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this problem from occurring, follow this procedure before
installing Windows NT 4.0:
NOTE: This method applies only when you run Winnt32.exe from Windows 2000. Winnt.exe (from either MS-DOS or Windows) cannot be used.
- Obtain the Winnt32.exe file from the latest Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack, and copy the file to a folder on your hard disk, or double-click the file on the Service Pack compact disc. The Winnt32.exe file is located in

- When you are prompted for the location of the Windows NT 4.0 files,
supply the path to the I386 folder on the Windows NT 4.0 compact disc.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT
Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows
NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service
Pack 4.
