Golf 98/99: Sound Problems if You Remove CD-ROM During Game Play (185189)

SYMPTOMS

If you remove the Microsoft Golf CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive while you are playing the game, you may experience problems playing sounds in the game.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you did not install the course ambient sounds to your hard disk during Golf Setup.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove and then reinstall Golf using either the Typical or the Full installation option. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Golf 98 CD-ROM or Golf 99 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. If the Setup program does not start automatically, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK

      drive:\setup.exe

      where drive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Uninstall Golf 98 or Uninstall Golf 99, and then click Yes.
  3. If you are prompted if you want to remove your personal game files, click Yes or No as appropriate.
  4. Click OK, click Exit Setup, and then click Yes.
  5. Click Start, and then click Run.
  6. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK

    drive:\setup.exe

    where drive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  7. Click Install Golf 98 or Install Golf 99, and then follow the instructions on the screen. When you are prompted to select the installation option you want, click either Typical or Full.
