The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q185066 SYMPTOMS
After you install Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition, if you start Word
for the first time by double-clicking a document icon, Word will be
started, but your document will not be opened. If you then try to open that
same document (the one that did not open), you may receive the following
error message:
Word has experienced an unexpected error -9117
CAUSE
The first time that you start an Office program, a process called the
"first run installation process" is started. The interaction between your
document and this process causes the problem.
WORKAROUND
To open the document again, quit and restart Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
