XL98: Error Opening File If No Active Printer Is Selected (185016)

When you open a file in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, you may
receive one of the following error messages:
Your file could not be printed due to an error on unknown printer (check
Chooser). There are several possible reasons:
- There may not be enough memory available. Try closing files and
programs you aren't using.
- Your printer or its driver may not be set up correctly. See the OS
Guide for your computer for instructions to check or set up the
printer.
- If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the
network connection or the printer driver.
- There may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer
and printer.
Your file could not be printed due to an error on ImageWriter. There
are several possible reasons:
- There may not be enough memory available. Try closing files and
programs you aren't using.
- Your printer or its driver may not be set up correctly. See the OS
Guide for your computer for instructions to check or set up the
printer.
- If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the
network connection or the printer driver.
- There may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer
and printer.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- The active sheet in the workbook that you are opening is a chart sheet.
-or-
- You saved the workbook in Lotus WK4 (1-2-3) format.
-and-
- An active printer is not selected in the Chooser.
WORKAROUND
To work around the problem, select a printer in the Chooser.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
The error message appears only the first time that you open the file.
