OFF98: Changing Screen Resolution Shifts Toolbars Off the Screen (185015)

SYMPTOMS

In any of the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs, the following problems may occur:

  • Toolbars are shifted to the left, which hides some of the toolbar buttons.

    -and-
  • The status bar may appear to be floating on top of the document.

CAUSE

Your toolbars may be shifted to the left, and the status bar may be positioned off the bottom of the screen if all of the following conditions are true:

  • The Office 98 program you are using is hidden (you clicked Hide <Office program name> on the Application menu).

    -and-
  • You reduced the resolution setting for the monitor and then raised the resolution setting.

    -and-
  • You started an Office 98 program.

WORKAROUND

To reset the toolbars and the status bar, leave the Office program running and follow these steps:

  1. Open the Monitors & Sound control panel and reduce the resolution by one setting.
  2. In the Monitors & Sound control panel, increase the resolution to the original setting that was selected before you changed it in step 1.
  3. Close the Monitors & Sound control panel.
  4. Switch to the Office program or start it if necessary.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs.
