OFF98: Configurations Dialog Box May Not Appear (185000)

SYMPTOMS

If you click Configurations on the File menu in the Configuration Manager, you cannot save a configuration.

CAUSE

Even though the Configurations menu item appears on the File menu in the Configuration Manager, you cannot save the configuration if the following conditions are true:

  • You install Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition.

    -and-
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer is not installed.
Microsoft Office 98 does not install the Configurations panel in the System Folder:MS Preferences Panels folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Microsoft Office 98 compact disc (CD).
  2. Open the Microsoft Internet folder.
  3. Double-click the Internet Explorer 4.0 Installer icon.
  4. When the installer is finished, click Restart.
  5. On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and then click Configuration Manager.
  6. On the File menu, click Configurations.
  7. Click Save in the dialog box that prompts you to save changes to your preferences.

    The Configurations dialog box appears.
