PUB98: Low Memory Error Opening Mail Merge Publication (184643)

When you attempt to open a mail merge publication, you receive the
following error message:
Windows is low on memory. To free up memory, save your work and close
other programs; then continue working.
CAUSE
You will receive the low memory error message when all of following
conditions are true:
- There is more than one page in the mail merge document.
-and-
- You have mail merge fields in a table on a page other than the first
page.
-and-
- The publication was saved while you were previewing the mail merge
results (on the Mail Merge menu, click Show Merge Results).
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem and preview your data, follow these steps:
- Go to the page in your publication that contains the table with the mail merge fields.
- On the Mail Merge menu, click Show View Codes.
- On the Mail Merge menu, click Show Merged Results.
NOTE: You will continue to receive the out of memory error message each
time you open this publication unless you save the publication while Show
Field Codes is turned on.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
