XL98: System Error Selecting Custom Chart Type with Keyboard (184263)

When you attempt to select a custom chart type in step 1 of the Chart
Wizard, you may receive one of the following error messages:
The application "Microsoft Excel" has unexpectedly quit, because an
error of type 1 occurred.
You should save your work in other open applications and restart the
computer.
The application "Microsoft Excel" has unexpectedly quit, because an
error of type 3 occurred.
You should save your work in other open applications and restart the
computer.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you do the following:
- You click Chart on the Insert menu or you click the Chart Wizard button
on the Standard toolbar.
- You click the Custom Types tab in the "ChartWizard - Step 1 of 4 - Chart
Type" dialog box.
- You press a key on the keyboard.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use your mouse pointer to select the chart
type that you want to use.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
