PRB: SVS Can Not Run on Other Node After Node Rebuilt (183959)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft SQL Server, Enterprise Edition 6.5
This article was previously published under Q183959 SYMPTOMS
If a node of the cluster is reinstalled for any reason and then rejoins the
cluster, a Symmetric Virtual Server (SVS) can not fail over to that node.
CAUSE
When the SVS is installed by using the SQL Cluster Wizard, several support
files are copied to both nodes of the cluster. Without these files, the SVS
can not run.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, uninstall the SVS by running the SQL Cluster
Wizard, choosing Remove, and then running the SQL Cluster Wizard again to
reinstall the SVS.
If the node that was reinstalled was the node that SQL Server Setup was
originally run on, uninstall SVS. For additional information about how to
uninstall SVS from a node that SQL Server was not installed on, please see
the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
