SYMPTOMS

When playing a sound file in Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition, the wrong sound file may play or you may receive the following error message:
PowerPoint cannot perform the requested operation because the associated multimedia file is invalid or corrupt.

CAUSE

This error occurs when you link to a sound file stored on a compact disk. This error does not occur if you embed the sound file in your presentation or when you link to a file on other media.

RESOLUTION

Embed the sound file in your presentation or copy the sound file to the local hard disk drive and then create a link to it.
