WD98: Opening an Equation Editor Object Gives Error Message (183625)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q183625 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt multiple times to open a Microsoft Equation Editor,
version 3.0, object from the Edit menu (point to Equation Editor and click
Open), you receive the following error:
Word cannot edit the Microsoft Equation 3.0
RESOLUTION
To prevent the error message from occurring, double-click the object to
edit it.
WORKAROUND
NOTE: This workaround may not work in all cases.
To fix the object, follow these steps:
- Click once to select the object.
- On the Edit menu, point to Equation Object, and click Convert.
- Under Object type, select Microsoft Equation 3.0.
- Click to toggle the Float Over Text check box (if it is selected, click
to clear the check box; if it is cleared, click to select the check
box).
- Click OK.
- Double-click the object to open it.
This error message occurs whether the object is placed into the document as
an inline object or as a floating object. If it is an inline object, the
second attempt to open the object by clicking Open (on the Edit menu, point
to Equation Object) will give you the error. If it is a floating object,
then the error message will occur on the third attempt.
STATUS
