PRJ98: Error Entering Number with Space as Thousands Separator (183456)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q183456

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you enter a number using a space as a list separator in a Work, Number or Duration field, the space will not be used or you will receive one of the following error messages (depending on where you entered the value).

If the Value Is in a Duration Field

The value is not valid.

This is not a valid duration, or is outside the range for this field.

Type a duration in the correct format: for example, 4 hours (or 4h), 12 days (or 12d), or 2ed for elapsed days.

If the Value Is in a Number Field

The value is not valid.

The number you entered is invalid or is outside the range for a Number field.

Make sure you are typing only numbers and no letters in this field, or type a smaller number.

If the Value Is in a Work Field

The value is not valid.

This is not a valid work value, or is outside the range for this column.

Type a value in the correct format: for example, 12 days or 12d.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you type a number using a space as a digit grouping symbol (thousands separator). For example, typing 1 000 in the Duration field causes the error.

WORKAROUND

Type the number without the digit group separator, for example, 1000.

STATUS
