OFF98: No Help Text Appears in Status Bar for Menu Items (183425)

SYMPTOMS

In the programs listed at the beginning of this article, no information about a menu item appears in the status bar when you point to the item on a menu.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior and view Help for a particular menu item, click Show Balloons on the Help menu. Then, point to a menu item.

A balloon appears and displays information for the menu item.

MORE INFORMATION

In the programs included in earlier versions of Microsoft Office, a brief description that summarizes the functionality of the menu item appears in the status bar when you point to an item on a menu.

For example, in Microsoft Excel 5.0, if you point to Open on the File menu, the following text appears in the status bar:

Opens saved document

In Microsoft Office 98 programs, no text appears in the status bar when you point to an item on a menu. This functionality is not available in any of the Microsoft Office 98 programs.
