WD98: Error When Saving Word 98 Document in Word 6.0/95 Format (183341)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q183341 SYMPTOMS
When you save a Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition document in Word 6.0/95
Export format, you may receive the following error messages:
There was an error saving the file.
After choosing OK, you receive the following error message:
There was insufficient memory or disk space. Close extra windows and
try again.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if graphics are converted to PICT (Macintosh) or WMF
(Windows Metafile) format. These formats do not support graphics
compression. Because the graphics can't be compressed, file size of the
document increases.
WORKAROUND
If you are saving a large document with lots of graphics from Word 98 to
the Word 6.0/95 Export format and you receive an error message, it is
recommended that you break up the Word 98 document into smaller files
before saving them in the Word 6.0/95 Export format.
To separate a file into separate parts, follow these steps:
- In your document (for example "MyDoc1"), select five or so pages of
text.
- On the Edit menu, click Cut.
- On the File menu, click New. Select Blank Document, and click OK.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- On the File menu, click Save As, and name your document "Yourdoc2."
- Click OK. Repeat steps 1-5 until entire document has been pasted into
separate, smaller files.
