SUMMARY

In order for an application to communicate with, and attach files to, an e-mail application, the e-mail application must be MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) compliant. This article describes how to set some common e-mail applications to be MAPI-compliant.

NOTE: This article does not encompass all MAPI-compliant applications, nor does it imply that any application that is not mentioned is therefore not MAPI-compliant.

Outlook Express

Please follow this procedure if you are using the e-mail application that comes with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x.

  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. In the Options dialog box, select the "Make Outlook Express my default e-mail program" check box.
  4. Select the "Make Outlook Express my default Simple MAPI client.

Netscape Messenger

Please follow this procedure if you are using the e-mail application that comes with Netscape Navigator 4.x.

  1. Start Netscape Navigator.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
  3. Click the "+" symbol next to Mail & Groups.
  4. Click Mail Server.
  5. Click the More Options button.
  6. Select the "Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications" check box.
  7. Click OK twice.

Eudora

Please follow this procedure if you are using either Eudora Pro or Eudora Lite version 3.x.

  1. Restart Windows and then immediately start Eudora.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the left side, scroll down and click the MAPI icon.
  4. On the right, click the option for Always.
  5. Click OK.
