MacPPT: Opening Presentation with Linked Sounds Takes a Long Time (183286)

When you attempt to open a presentation that contains linked sounds from your
hard disk, a network connection, or an audio compact disc, PowerPoint may
appear to stop responding for a long time, and you experience the following symptoms:
- The progress meter stops at 50 percent to 60 percent for a long time.
- The pointer changes to an arrow pointer.
- There is little or no hard disk activity.
CAUSE
PowerPoint is searching for the linked file.
WORKAROUND
To help speed up the process, you can disconnect from all mounted network
volumes before you open your presentation.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
