WD98: Fax Does Not Appear on File Menu When Using MacComCenter (183228)

SYMPTOMS

If you have MacComCenter and you attempt to fax from Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, you may receive an error or no message at all, but nothing is faxed.

MacComCenter is a communications suite with extensive fax, voice mail, and data functionality for the Macintosh family of computers. MacComCenter adds "Fax" to the File menu of most Macintosh programs.

CAUSE

"Fax" does not appear in the Word 98 File menu until you select the fax driver in the Chooser.

RESOLUTION

To fax from Word 98 using MacComCenter, follow these steps:

  1. On the Apple menu, click Chooser.
  2. In Chooser, select the fax driver.
  3. Close Chooser and return to Word.
You should now be able to fax from Word 98.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem between Smith-Micro MacComCenter faxing software versions 1.3.9 and 2.01 and Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
