SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Query 97, the Choose Data Source dialog box displays only File Data Source Names (DSNs).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you upgrade the existing Intersolv Oracle 3.00 Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver to the Intersolv Oracle 3.01 ODBC driver.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the updated driver and re-create all queries that you have previously created with the Oracle 3.00 ODBC driver.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Query 97 for Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

The Oracle 3.01 ODBC driver stores the version number as part of the driver name. DSN-less connections, which are used by Microsoft Query 97, store the driver name as part of the connection string. When the Oracle driver version number changes, so does the driver name, which invalidates the existing connection string.

The Oracle ODBC driver is manufactured by Intersolv, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
