XL98: Spelling Missing from Tools Menu After Loading Analysis ToolPak (183013)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, when you click the Tools menu, Spelling is missing from the top of the Tools menu.

CAUSE

After you first install the Analysis ToolPak add-in through the Add-Ins dialog box, the top menu item (Spelling) is removed from the Tools menu.

RESOLUTION

The Atpfix.hqx file corrects this problem. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
To install the updated Analysis Toolpak file, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Microsoft Excel.
  2. Use an appropriate program to decode and decompress the add-in.
  3. Copy the Analysis Toolpak file to the following folder:

    Microsoft Office 98:Office:Excel Add-Ins:Analysis Tools

Workaround

To work around this problem use either of the following methods.

If you have removed the Analysis ToolPak, quit and restart Excel. After you do this, Excel completely rebuilds the Tools menu.

If the Analysis ToolPak is installed when you quit and restart Excel, only the Spelling menu item will be missing from the Tools menu. In this case, you can check the spelling in your worksheet by doing either of the following:
  • Press F7.

    -or-
  • Click the Spelling button on the Standard toolbar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
