SYMPTOMS

When you use SEE_MASK_INVOKEIDLIST with ShellExecuteEx() under Internet Explorer 4.0 with the Desktop Update, a problem occurs when an item not associated with an application is started. This problem has only been observed under Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Server with Service Pack 3 (recommended for Internet Explorer 4.0).

Normally, this should bring up the "Open With ..." dialog box, but it starts Internet Explorer 4.0 with the default startup page instead under Internet Explorer 4.0.

CAUSE

This has been shown to be a problem in Internet Explorer 4.0 with the Desktop Update.

RESOLUTION

Install Internet Explorer 4.01.

STATUS

This problem was fixed in Internet Explorer 4.01.

MORE INFORMATION

Internet Explorer 4.01 can be distributed as per the terms in the Platform SDK, which supercedes the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK). Individual components may not be redistributed.
