Imports to Large Databases May Fail with Error 50002 (181957)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Site Server 2.0
This article was previously published under Q181957 SYMPTOMS
The Usage Analyst import module for SQL Server may fail during log file
imports to very large databases with the following error message:
RESULTS: Error 50002. S1T00: {Microsoft {ODBC Sql Server Driver:
Timeout expired}}
CAUSE
The Usage Analyst import module for SQL Server has a query timeout of 60
seconds for SQL operations to complete. As the SQL database grows, the
amount of time required to complete queries during an import may exceed
60 seconds, resulting in the 50002 "Timeout expired" error message.
This problem has been reported in very large databases (exceeding 4 GB in
size).
RESOLUTION
The SQL Server connection timeout was increased enough to support multi-
gigabyte-sized databases.
To resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next
Site Server 2.0 service pack.
The fix file should have the following timestamp:
Import.exe 2/2/98 05:46PM Version 2.00.0004
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server version 2.0.
A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested
and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft
recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
