PI 2.0: Slow or Hangs at Startup (181851)

Microsoft Picture It! 2.0 may stop responding at Startup at thes following points:
- Immediately after opening.
- On a partially white or gray screen as it draws the project pane.
- Immediately after you close the Introduction.
Picture It! may also stop responding while closing, editing, printing,
saving, sending a file, or exiting or may be very slow performing these
tasks.
RESOLUTION
Although the specific cause is not known, uninstalling Microsoft Media
Manager 1.5 which comes with Picture It! often resolves this problem.
Note Image files created while Media Manager is installed require
additional steps during uninstall to ensure their readability.
To complete the process, please follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Media Manager.
- On the Indexer tab, at the bottom there is a button that reads Stop
Indexer. Click the button, and then click OK.
- Close Control Panel.
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
- Click Silver Media Manager Brief Case(s), right-click on them,
and then click the Convert to Windows folder on the Menu to convert the
folder(s).
Once this has been accomplished remove Media Manager by following these
steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Media Manager 1.5.
- Click Add/Remove.5.
When setup starts, click Remove All.
- When you are prompted, click Remove All Custom Annotations.
- Follow the online instructions to complete setup.
If it is necessary to reinstall Picture It! you can install it without
automatically installing Media Manager by running Bootstrp.exe instead of
Setup.exe. To install Picture It! without installing Media Manager, follow
these steps:
- Insert the Picture It! CD in the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- Click Browse, and then select the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Bootstrp.exe, click Open, and then click OK.
- Follow the instructions in Picture It! setup.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.

Microsoft Media Manager 1.5 is a content management system that
comes with Microsoft Picture It! version 2.0. As used with Picture It!,
Media Manager enables you to add descriptive key words to files and later
search on those key words to find particular types of files.
Microsoft Media Manager 1.5 is not essential to the functionality of
Picture It!.
