SUMMARY

This article explains how Gain and Percent Gain (% Gain) are calculated in the Performance View of the Investments area in Microsoft Money.

MORE INFORMATION

Gain and Percent Gain are calculated from the date of the first transaction for each investment, or for the account. The calculations are as follows:
   Gain =   Closing value amount

          + Income transactions amount
          + Sell transactions amount
          + Short Sell transactions amount
          - Opening value amount (this is the beginning of the first
            transaction with that security or in that account)
          - Buy transactions amount
          - Cover Short transactions amount

   Percent Gain = Gain / (Opening value + Buys + Short Sells)
