FP98: Error Using Image for Hover Button on Disk-Based Web (181653)

SYMPTOMS

When you preview a page that contains a hover button, the hover button appears as a gray box. When you rest the mouse over the hover button, you see one of the following messages in the status bar:

Internet Explorer:
   Exception: com.ms.securityExceptionEx[fphover.init]:
   cannot access file /C:/myweb/progressive.jpg.
				
Netscape Navigator:
   Applet Fphover can't start:
   exception: java.lang.NullPointerException.
				

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if both of the following are true:
  • You are using a custom image for your hover button.

    -and-
  • Your Web is a disk-based Web.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use either of the following methods:
  • Publish your content to a server-based Web rather than a disk-based Web.

    -or-
  • Do not use a custom image for your hover button.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
