SYMPTOMS

The Debt Reduction Planner always rounds payments up to the next dollar for debts included in the plan, but does not allow you to change the amount of a payment.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design in the versions of Microsoft Money listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The Debt Reduction Planner is designed to assist you when you have several sources of open-ended debt with different, high rates of interest such as credit cards.

The Debt Reduction Planner is not as effective for debts where the balance is paid in full each month, such as charge cards requiring full payment. Further, it is not intended for fixed-rate loans with a definite final payment date (such as home mortgages and car loans, where you know exactly when the final payment is due). In such cases, you cannot alter the Debt Reduction Planner to reflect the exact amount of the given payment.

WORKAROUND

If you really want to change the amount of a given payment, you may do so in the Bills area, as you enter the bills that the Debt Reduction Planner has created.

For more information about editing a payment in the Bills area, click the Help button on the navigation bar, and search for the following topic in Money Help:
