WD98: Custom Style Changes When Numbering Applied to Based-On Style (181362)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q181362 SYMPTOMS
When you create a new style based on an existing style, and you then define
the existing style (the style the new style was based on) to include
numbering, the new style will also be defined to include numbering.
NOTE: Numbering includes Bulleted, Numbered, and Outline Numbered.
CAUSE
This behavior is by design and is different from earlier versions of Word.
In Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, any custom style will inherit
numbering that is applied to the style that it is based on.
WORKAROUND
Do not apply numbering to the existing style. Instead, apply numbering to
the new style.
