OL98: (CW) MAPI Was Unable to Load the Information Service (181356)

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Microsoft Outlook 98 and you use the Microsoft Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail, you may receive the following message:
An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service CCDB8.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.
Or you may receive the error:
Unable to locate your default mail folders. Outlook could not start because a location to send and receive mail could not be found. To add a location, such as a personal folder, double-click the Mail icon in Windows Control Panel.

CAUSE

You do not have Personal Folders in your profile.

RESOLUTION

Add Personal Folders to your Profile. To add Personal Folders to your profile, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Mail (or Mail and Fax) icon and on the Services tab, click Show Profiles.
  3. Click to select the profile you want to add a new Personal Folders file to, and click Properties.
  4. On the Services tab, click Add.
  5. In the Available Information Services list, click Personal Folders, and then click OK.
  6. Type a name for your new Personal Folders file with a .pst extension, and then click Open.
  7. In the "Create Microsoft Personal Folders" dialog box, you can change the name for this Personal Folders file, and then click OK, OK, and then Close.
