MacPPT: Gradient Fills Change After You Save File in 4.0 Format (181150)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh
- Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q181150 SYMPTOMS
In PowerPoint 98 or PowerPoint 2001, you may experience either of the following symptoms when you save a file in PowerPoint 4.0 file format:
- A two-color gradient fill changes to a single color gradient fill.
-or-
- A preset gradient fill changes to the default background color.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because two-color and preset gradient fills are new features that were introduced in PowerPoint 98. PowerPoint 4.0 does not use this type of formatting.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior in PowerPoint 98 or 2001, when you save a file in PowerPoint 4.0 format, set the background gradient fill to a single color fill before you convert the file. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Slide (in PowerPoint 2001, click Normal).
- On the Format menu, click Background.
- Under Background fill, click Fill Effects in the list of colors.
- Click the Gradient tab.
- Under Colors, click One color.
- Select the color and gradient shade that you want, and then click OK.
- To apply the change to the current slide, click Apply. To apply the change to all slides and the slide master, click Apply To All.
