PRJ98: Individual Assignments on Task Not Leveled (181001)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q181001

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you level resources, adjustments to individual resource assignments may not occur.

CAUSE

When you level resources, adjustments to individual resource assignments will not occur if actual work has been applied to the task.

NOTE: This behavior occurs even when the Leveling can adjust individual assignments on a task option is selected. (To locate this option, on the Tools menu, click Resource Leveling.)

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, manually level any tasks where a resource is overallocated after the project has been leveled.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Project 98 can perform independent resource leveling. For example, when two resources are assigned to a task and one is overallocated, leveling can delay and split the assignment for the overallocated resource, independent of other resources working on the same task.

However, if actual work is applied against the task, Microsoft Project will level all resources according to the availability of the overallocated resource, delaying the entire task.
