Error Message: The Virtual Circuit Was Reset By the Other Side (180961)

When you attempt to start Internet Explorer, you may receive the following
error message:
The virtual circuit was reset by the other side
If you are currently connected to your Internet service provider (ISP),
the connection is terminated.
CAUSE
This error message can occur if America Online is your ISP, and Internet
Explorer is configured to use a Dial-Up Networking connection to America
Online.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
- Quit Internet Explorer.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Internet, and then click the Connection tab.
- Click "Connect to the Internet using a local area network."
- Click the "Access the Internet using a proxy server" check box to
select it, and then click OK.
- Connect and log on to America Online using the America Online software.
- Start Internet Explorer.
MORE INFORMATION
When you install the America Online software, Setup may add a connection
in Dial-Up Networking. This connection cannot be used to connect and log
on to America Online. You must connect and log on using the America Online
software.
