PRJ98: Incorrect BCWP for Resource Assignment with Cost/Use (180922)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q180922

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, in the Task Usage or Resource Usage view, the Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP) field for a resource assignment may contain an incorrect value. The BCWP field for the task however shows the correct value.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you assign a cost per use (Cost/Use) to a resource, and then assign this resource to a task that is between 0 and 100 percent complete.

Microsoft Project treats the cost per use as a prorated cost for the resource assignment. Instead, cost per use should be assigned at the beginning or end of the assignment. This only occurs when the task's percent complete is either 0 or 100 percent.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
