SBFM98: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Runtime Error (180382)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to update accounting data, you receive the following error message
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Runtime Error! Program path abnormal program termination
where path is the path to Excel.exe. When you click OK, the data is not imported.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you use Peachtree to convert Peachtree 3.5 data files to a later version, for example version 4.x or 5.x, and then use the Import Wizard in the Small Business Financial Manager (SBFM) to update accounting data.

WORKAROUND

To successfully update accounting data, use the appropriate method for your version of Windows.

In Microsoft Windows 95/98 or Microsoft Windows NT

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. Type *.mdb in the Named box, and then click Find Now.
  3. Right-click the file with your company name, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu. Click Yes when asked to confirm the file deletion.

    NOTE: The default location for this file is usually the following:

    Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\SBFM\Database

  4. Restart Excel. On the Accounting menu, click Import to import the accounting data.

In Microsoft Windows 2000

  1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
  2. Type *.mdb in the Search for files or folders named box, and then click Search Now.
  3. Right-click the file with your company name, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu. Click Yes when asked to confirm the file deletion.

    NOTE: The default location for this file is usually the following:

    Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\SBFM\Database

  4. Restart Excel. On the Accounting menu, click Import to import the accounting data.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
