This article was previously published under Q179795 SUMMARY
Service Advertising Protocols (SAPs) are used to broadcast information
about available services on the network to other networked devices. A
server may send out a SAP every 60 seconds to inform other network devices
about the services it offers. Workstations use SAPs to find services they
need on the network. The following list of SAP IDs corresponds to the SAP IDs
that networking companies give to the services on the devices they produce.
Filtering of these SAPs reduces wide area network (WAN) traffic, but may also prevent remote
users across the router from using the filtered service.
