PRJ: Changing Percent Complete Causes Delay or Schedule Error (179781)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 2000
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q179781 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, when you change the percent complete of a task,
you may see an unexpected delay between the task and its successor, or you
may receive the following error message:
You moved task <x> of '<project name>' to finish <date>. This is after the project finish date (<project finish date>).
<X> is the task number of the successor of the task you just changed, <project name> is the name of the project, <date> is the date the successor is moved to because of the delay, and <project finish date> is the project's finish date.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
- The project is scheduled to start from finish.
- The option "Tasks will always honor their constraint dates" is
turned off.
- The predecessor task has either a Finish No Earlier Than, or Must
Finish On constraint.
- The predecessor task finishes before its constraint date.
WORKAROUND
Change the constraint date of the predecessor task to reflect the date that
the task finishes on.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
