PUB98: Some Objects Don't Print if EMF Graphic in Publication (179715)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q179715

SYMPTOMS

If you have inserted an enhanced metafile graphic (EMF) in your publication and have placed it in the background, any Publisher drawing objects, and some inserted graphics may not print, or your publication may print off center or not at all.

You will also see the same behavior if you place the EMF graphic on a page in your publication that is printed upside down, like a tent fold card.

CAUSE

This is caused by a problem in the enhanced metafile filter. When the graphic is imported into Publisher using this filter, Publisher is unable to properly handle the image.

WORKAROUND

To workaround this problem, you can insert the enhanced metafile image as a drawing into you publication. To insert your enhanced metafile into your publication using Microsoft Draw 98, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click New Drawing.

    Microsoft Draw 98 starts.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Picture.
  3. Select the EMF file you want to import.

You should now see your EMF file in the Draw 98 window.
  4. Resize the Draw 98 window until it is about the same size as the EMF graphic.
  5. Click outside the Draw 98 window to exit and return to Publisher.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
