MORE INFORMATION

To perform either a local or workstation installation of Microsoft Publisher from a shared folder, follow these steps:
  1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following:

    \\<UNC path>\Setup

where <UNC path> is the server location where you installed the Publisher files.

    -or-

    <Drive>:\Setup

where <Drive> is the disk drive where you installed the Publisher files.
  3. Type the user name you want to use.
  4. Verify the Product Identification Number.
  5. Select the folder where you want to install Publisher. This folder can be located on the local hard disk or on the network server. If you install the files to the network server, you must have read, write, create and delete privileges.

NOTE: If you choose to install the files to the Network server, the Setup program will create a small folder that contains some specific files for Publisher on the local hard disk.
  6. When you created the administrative installation point, if you selected the User's Choice option, which allows the user to specify where shared components will be installed, you will see the following options:
Server Setup copies the shared component files to the
Msapps folder on the server. That is, the shared
components will be accessed over the network.

Local hard disk Setup copies the shared component files to the
<Windows>\Msapps folder on the local hard disk.

  7. Select from one of these three installation options:
Complete All options and components of Publisher are
installation installed to the local hard disk or
                            network drive.

Custom The components you select will be installed to the
installation local hard disk or network drive.

Workstation The main Publisher application files are left on
installation the server; they will be executed over the network.

If you click Custom Installation, Setup will present a series of lists so that you can select only the components you want to install. The first list contains the main Publisher components:

    Microsoft Publisher
    Wizards and Design Gallery
    Graphics Filters
    Text Converters
    Mail Merge
    Commercial Printing
    Publisher Tools
    Web Authoring Accessories

For text converters, graphic filters, and Publisher tools, click Change Option to view the list of sub-options within the component. For example, you can select Graphics Filters and then click Change Option to see the list of graphics formats supported by filters available with Publisher.

If a check box has a grey background, some sub-options are already selected. If a check box contains a check mark, all sub-options will be installed. No check mark indicates that the option will not be installed.
  8. After you select the installation type and the options you want, continue with Setup and follow the instructions on your screen.
