XL98: Some Commands Are Not Listed in the Customize Dialog Box (179502)

When you use the Customize dialog box in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh
Edition to change the Worksheet menu bar, the following commands may be
missing from the Commands list.

NOTE: There is a Custom Views command in the Commands list. However this
command does not appear on the View menu after the Customize dialog box is
closed.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you click Customize on the Tools menu, and then
click the Commands tab to add a command that is listed in the table in the
"Symptoms" section.
WORKAROUND
To restore these commands, use either of the following methods.
NOTE: By following either Method 2 or Method 3, you reset the entire
Worksheet menu bar.
Method 1: Reset Individual Menu in Excel
To use this method, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Toolbars
tab.
- Click Worksheet Menu Bar.
- Hold the CONTROL key down and click the menu you want to reset.
- Click Reset.
- Click Close.
Method 2: Reset Worksheet Menu Bar in Excel
To use this method, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Toolbars
tab.
- Click Worksheet Menu Bar.
- Click Reset.
- Click OK.
This step resets the entire Worksheet Menu Bar.
- Click Close.
Method 3: Delete Settings File
To use this method, follow these steps:
- Quit Excel.
- Locate the Macintosh HD:System Folder:Preferences folder.
- Drag Excel Settings (8) to the Trash.
- Start Excel.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
