PUB98: Publisher Incorrectly Numbers Columns in a Table Frame (179408)

If you select a column in a Microsoft Publisher table and apply a numbered
list format to the data in the table, each cell in the column contains the
number one rather than a number that is incremented automatically.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, number the cells using either of the following
methods.
Method 1: Use the Indents And Lists Command- Select the first cell that you want to have a number.
- On the Format menu, click Indents And Lists.
- Click Numbered List.
- In the Start At box, type the number that you want to appear in that
cell.
- Repeat steps 1-4 for each cell that you want to have a number.
Method 2: Type the Numbers in the ColumnMethod 3: Create Two tables Side by Side - Create a single column table and format the column with steps 1 - 4 above using Indents and Lists.
- Create a second table next to the single column table. Move the 2nd table to produce the correct alignment so it appears you have only one table.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
