PUB98: Publisher Incorrectly Numbers Columns in a Table Frame (179408)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q179408

SYMPTOMS

If you select a column in a Microsoft Publisher table and apply a numbered list format to the data in the table, each cell in the column contains the number one rather than a number that is incremented automatically.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, number the cells using either of the following methods.

Method 1: Use the Indents And Lists Command

  1. Select the first cell that you want to have a number.
  2. On the Format menu, click Indents And Lists.
  3. Click Numbered List.
  4. In the Start At box, type the number that you want to appear in that cell.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each cell that you want to have a number.

Method 2: Type the Numbers in the Column

Method 3: Create Two tables Side by Side

  1. Create a single column table and format the column with steps 1 - 4 above using Indents and Lists.
  2. Create a second table next to the single column table. Move the 2nd table to produce the correct alignment so it appears you have only one table.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
