GW: Internet Browser Does Not Start (179396)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Greetings Workshop
  • Microsoft Greetings Workshop 2.0

This article was previously published under Q179396

SYMPTOMS

When you click on the Telephone icon in Greetings Workshop version 1.0 or 2.0 or when you post (or upload) a greeting with Greetings Workshop version 2.0, Greetings Workshop tries to start your default browser and then takes you to the following Web address:

However, if Greetings Workshop cannot locate your default browser, you may receive an error message.

RESOLUTION

Test to see if Windows 95 can locate your default browser. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Quit all running programs, including your browser.
  2. On your Windows 95 desktop, click Start and then Run.
  3. Type any valid Internet address in the Open box, for example:
  4. Click OK.
If you receive an error message, it indicates that Windows 95 cannot locate and start your browser. If Windows 95 cannot do this, Greetings Workshop cannot do this either.

To resolve this problem, contact either your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your browser manufacturer and request information on how to make Windows 95 recognize your browser as the default browser.
