SYMPTOMS

When you start Lost World: Jurassic Park Chaos Island, you may receive the following error message:
Ddhelp caused an invalid page fault in module Winmm.dll.
When you click Close, the computer may restart.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:
  • The DirectX Setup files are mismatched or the wrong versions.
  • The DirectX files are not being updated correctly when you install the program.
  • You are using outdated or incompatible sound or video drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following methods:

Remove and Reinstall the DirectX Setup Files

To remove and reinstall the DirectX setup files, use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. On the View menu, click Options.
  3. Click the View tab, and then click Show All Files.
  4. Click the "Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered" check box to clear it.
  5. Click OK, and then quit Windows Explorer.
  6. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  7. In the Named box, type dsetup16.dll dsetup32.dll, and then click Find Now.
  8. In the list of found files, right-click each file, and then click Delete. Continue until the list of found files is empty.
  9. Close the Find: Files Named Dsetup16.dll Dsetup32.dll window.
  10. Insert the Lost World: Jurassic Park Chaos Island CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Lost World: Jurassic Park Chaos Island from starting automatically.
  11. Click Start, and then click Run.
  12. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK

    <drive>:\setup\directx\dxsetup.exe

    where <drive> is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  13. Click Reinstall DirectX, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
  14. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click OK.

Reinstall DirectX from Your Hard Disk in Safe Mode

To reinstall DirectX from your hard disk in Safe mode, use the following steps:
  1. Insert the Lost World: Jurassic Park Chaos Island CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Lost World: Jurassic Park Chaos Island from starting automatically.
  2. Double-click My Computer.
  3. Right-click the Chaos Island (CD-ROM drive) icon, and then click Explore.
  4. Double-click the Setup folder.
  5. Right-click the DirectX folder, and then click Copy.
  6. Close all open windows.
