PUB98: How To Print Crop Marks on Label Publications (179272)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q179272

SYMPTOMS

Publisher ships with a Label Wizard and preformatted page layouts for many Avery labels. If you create a publication based on one of these layouts or with the Label Wizard, it is printed without crop marks. This happens even if you select the Print Crop Marks check box in the Print dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. These layouts are designed to peel-off label stock. Crop marks are not necessary with this type of paper.

WORKAROUND

You can force Publisher to print crop marks on a label publication.

NOTE: Publisher can print crop marks only if there is more than one-half inch of space between the copies of the publication. With many label formats, the labels are adjacent to each other. As a result, the layout of the printed labels with the crop marks will not match the layout of the actual peel-off label stock.

To print crop marks on a label publication, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Click Page Options.
  3. Click Custom Options. If this button is not available (dimmed), click "Print Multiple Copies Per Sheet" and then click Custom Options.
  4. Make sure the values in the Side Margin, Top Margin, Horizontal Gap, and Vertical Gap boxes are at least .5". Click OK.
  5. Click to select the Print Crop Marks check box.
  6. Click OK.
