The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 98, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
This article was previously published under Q179218 SYMPTOMS
When attempting to delete a border in Microsoft Publisher, you may receive
the following error message:
The folder where Publisher keeps BorderArt is unavailable.
The folder may have been deleted or renamed, or it's properties may have
been changed. Please run Setup again.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the Office\PubBrd folder is compressed using NTFS
compression.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, remove the NTFS compression from the Office\PubBrd
folder by following these steps:
- Quit Publisher.
- Right-click the PubBrd folder and click Properties on the menu that
appears.
- In the Attributes section, click to clear the Compress check box. Click
OK.
- When you are prompted to uncompress subfolders, click OK.
The Office\PubBdr folder is now uncompressed and you should be able to
delete borders in Publisher.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
Publisher stores the border (.bdr) files in the PubBrd folder in the Office
folder. When you delete a border, Publisher makes a change to one of the
.bdr files. If this folder is compressed, Publisher is unable to modify the
.bdr files.
