PUB: Deleting BorderArt Removes Pattern from .bdr File (179211)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 2000
- Microsoft Publisher 98
This article was previously published under Q179211 SYMPTOMS
If you delete a border by clicking the Delete button on the BorderArt tab
in the Borders dialog box, the border will be deleted from the current
publication and it will no longer be available to use in future
publications.
In addition, you cannot rerun the Microsoft Publisher Setup program to
reinstall the border pattern(s) that you deleted.
CAUSE
The borders used by Publisher are stored in .bdr files in the
Office\Borders folder. Publisher includes more than 160 border patterns.
These are stored in 15 .bdr files. If you delete a border in the
Borders dialog box, Publisher modifies the .bdr file that contains that
pattern. However, Publisher does not delete the file. If you rerun the
Publisher Setup program and click Reinstall, Publisher only replaces
missing files; it does not reinstall the modified .bdr files.
RESOLUTION
To restore deleted borders, follow these steps:
- Determine which .bdr file has been modified by checking the dates of
all the .bdr files in the PubBrd folder. If the .bdr file has not been
modified, its date will be December 8, 1997.
- Delete or rename the file(s) that you identified in step 1.
- Copy the original .bdr file(s) from the PubBrd folder, located on the
Publisher CD-ROM, to the Office\Borders folder on your hard disk.
