  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q178906

SYMPTOMS

If you select Collate in the Print dialog box, and print multiple copies of a multi-page publication to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 850c/855c from Microsoft Windows 95, the printed copies are sorted instead of collated.

This problem does not occur if you print to the HP DeskJet 540c/550c/560c or the 600c/660c printers. Nor does this problem occur if you print to the HP DeskJet 850c/855c from Microsoft Windows NT.

CAUSE

Some printers can collate pages automatically, while others require that Publisher send the publication multiple times. If the printer can collate copies automatically, Publisher tries to save time and disk space by having it do so. The Windows 95 Driver for the HP DeskJet 850c/855c printer incorrectly reports that it can handle the collation.

Other programs, such as Microsoft WordPad and Microsoft Internet Explorer, have similar problems printing collated copies to the DeskJet 850c/855c.

WORKAROUND

If you do not want to collate the copies manually, you can try printing your publication to the HP DeskJet 850c/855c using the HP DeskJet 660c driver.
