PUB98: Banner Printed from Publisher Has Missing Characters (178805)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q178805

SYMPTOMS

When you print a banner created in Microsoft Publisher, some characters may be missing from the printed output.

NOTE: This problem does not occur if you create the text on your banner using a WordArt frame instead of a text or table frame.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet (and compatible) printers cannot split characters between separate sheets of paper, although this ability is often needed when printing a banner.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Use TrueType fonts

Use TrueType fonts, and select the "Print TrueType As Graphics" check box on the Fonts tab in the HP LaserJet printer Properties dialog box.

NOTE: The "Print TrueType As Graphics" option is only available when you use a printer driver for the HP LaserJet or a compatible printer that emulates an HP LaserJet printer.

For more information about The Print TrueType As Graphics option see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Method 2: Use a WordArt frame instead of a text or table frame
