PRJ98: Updating Project Stops Responding in Workgroup Message (178686)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q178686 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you update a project from a workgroup
message, Microsoft Project may appear to stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the project that is being updated is saved to a
database that requires a password. If the project is not open when the
Update Project button is clicked, Microsoft Project will open the project
from the database. This will result in a password dialog box for the
database. Microsoft Project appears to stop responding when this password
dialog box is covered by the workgroup message dialog box.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, do either of the following:
- Press ALT+TAB on your keyboard to show the password dialog
box.
- Open the project before clicking the Update Project button.
You will be prompted for the password when you open the project.
Then, when you update the project from the workgroup message, you
will not be prompted again for a password.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
